About Reflexology
Archeological evidence points to ancient reflexology medical practices in Egypt which dates back to 2330 BC.
In the 20th century Dr William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat specialist brought Reflexology to the USA. Eunice Ingham, physiotherapist, became very interested in zone therapy and in the early 1930s developed foot reflexology. She came to the conclusion that the whole body (internal organs and the structures) could be treated using the application of pressure to certain points on the feet or hands. Using Fitzgerald’s zone charts she mapped the whole body onto the feet.
Doreen Bayly brought Reflexology to Britain in 1966 and today reflexology (which sees the body as a whole as opposed to separate parts) has become established as one of the most popular forms of complementary therapies practised today.
